December marks some painful anniversaries for US/Native history. On December 26th of 1862, 38 Dakota were hanged in the largest mass execution in American history. That Execution Order was signed by Abraham Lincoln. In December of 1890, Sitting Bull was murdered by US backed police. Later that month, the Massacre at Wounded Knee would occur. Join me as I put these events into historical context and talk of the legacy of these events.

My old friend Doc Shya joins me on the program to talk about the common ground shared in slavery and in racism; how Black and Native people survived together.

We are in a tough spot but all roads led us here. We need change. We need activism to make those changes. Sure! Go ahead and "Vote for Change", pray for change; do what has always been done. After a two year fight with my old high school which went from the school board to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and then to State Supreme Court, NYSED has ordered all schools to remove Native mascots by the end of the school year.

The Supreme Court heard arguments this week on a challenge to the constitutionality of the Indian Child Welfare Act.

The bill has passed both chambers of the NY State legislature but the Governor has failed to sign it into law. 47 other states have such a law.

First let me remind people that Native people are not characters to be mocked even for Halloween. Just don't do it!

And NO! I don't vote! I suspect the final chapter of a successful genocide is when the victims line up to cast a ballot for who will oppress them next. I will not voluntarily submit to assimilation.
